Savanna Restoration Research (Phase II)
In 2009, a massive savanna restoration project began. The vision: to create a unique ecosystem, in the heart of San Antonio.
We coupled this restoration event with a citizen science research project, assessing the use of bacterial soil inoculants in this restoration process. What we found from this study helped guide us in future restoration efforts.
The study, published in January 2015 in the Natural Areas Journal, could not have been completed without the help of our Alamo Area Master Naturalist and volunteers. …Now, onto research phase II.
Volunteers have begun to set up research plots in the most recently restored area of the savanna and will monitor the succession process through time. What we learn from this study will continue to guide us and others in the restoration process.
Check the website calendar for dates of future volunteer opportunities in this research project and continued savanna restoration efforts.
