Urban Ecology opening draws VIPs, crowds
The crowd Saturday grew to hundreds — from teenage snake handlers to the grand opening of the newest showpiece in the city's park system.
All earth tones, stained wood and dark metal, the Urban Ecology Center at Phil Hardberger Park offers 18,600 square feet of education and meeting space, as well as picnic areas, and nearly three miles of new trails.
And not surprisingly, the foremost VIP was on hand to admire the latest stage of development in the 311-acre urban park that came to being under his leadership.
