Bats Program

On October 22, 2011, Nyta Brown of Texas Parks & Wildlife Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area, led our education program on bats.

Old Tunnel, an abandoned railroad tunnel in the Texas Hill Country, is home to three million Brazilian free-tailed bats. Did you know that each bat can eat its weight in insects nightly and the whole colony may devour over 25 tons of moths per night?

Coming Up

Join us November 26, 2011, when Peggy York, Alamo Area Master Naturalist (and master hunter), will tell us all about wild turkeys and other game birds of South Texas.
